Male costume from Pyrgi, Chios island. It consists of tight white trousers ("sourelo"), a straight tunic and a crossed-over waistcoat ("gouneli"). A brown woolen cummerbund is wound round the waist, while a kerchief ("yemeni") is tied over it. The shoes are of black leather. A yellow cap of cotton and fully embroidered fine kerchiefs, one for the head and another for the throat, complete the ensemble, 18th century.
