Traditional costume from Psara island. It was worn by Maria Monarchidou, daughter of Nikolis Apostolis, naval warrior of Psara. It consists of a woven silk tunic, a silk dress, and a hem, the velvet waisted jacket ("kontogouni"), the "gounela" trimmed with black fur. A silk kerchief with fringes is wound round the waist. The headgear consists of red cotton kerchiefs worn under a long white silk shawl ("bolia"), 19th century.
