The Department of Conservation and Restoration of NHM was established in 1980. It consists of two studios that cover the needs for conservation of all the artefacts that form the collections of the Museum, its branches in Hydra as well as the departments of Historical Documents Archive, the Photographic Archive and the Library of IEEE.

The Library of the Historical and Ethnological Society of Greece was established in 1884, two years after the foundation of the Society, under the supervision of the eminent scholar Antonis Miliarakis. The first books were rare editions about Greek history. Since then, those who had the responsibility of operating the Library continued to constantly enrich it with new acquisitions.
The founding declaration of the HESG in May 1882 made provision also for the establishment of an Archive of documents of historical importance. From the first years of its operation, numerous acquisitions have been entered in its inventory. Today the historical documents in the Archive make up about 350 archival units.
The Old Parliament House is directly connected with Greek history: it was the first permanent base of the Greek National Assembly.
The Historical and Ethnological Society of Greece was founded in 1882 and is a private entity. It aims at collecting, preserving and promoting items and testimonies that illuminate the history of Modern Greece. For this purpose, the Society has established the National Historical Museum.
